The worst pothole in LA? Drivers left with shredded tires, disabled cars along Sunset Boulevard
WESTWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A pothole along a street in the Westwood area is notorious for flattening tires and tearing off hub caps, leaving drivers with costly road damage.
The crater is located on Sunset Boulevard near Beverly Glen. Video taken Wednesday night by one of those unfortunate drivers shows the large and deep hole in the road. Multiple hub caps were also seen strewn along the street, creating a memorial of sorts for all the tires ruined by the pothole.
The woman says six cars, including her own, got a flat tire within two hours.
The asphalt reportedly opens up again and again - no matter how often it's filled and fixed. Drivers say it's been a problem in the area for decades despite repairs.
"It happens all the time. We see people driving through Sunset, they don't see the pothole, they hit it and they become disabled, and then they actually come to my office for help or at least to wait for AAA come come and tow their car, fix their tire," said Jonathan Brand, executive director with the Bel Air Association.
Brand said he's also been a victim of the pothole, calling it one of the worst he's ever seen.
Eyewitness News was out on Sunset reporting on this issue Friday and reached out to the city of Los Angeles for answers, and asked if there's plans for a more permanent fix.

Just after 8 a.m., a street services crew with the city showed up to begin repair work.
"For now, it's good," Brand said. "The potholes keep coming back. They need to do a comprehensive analysis of what needs to be done, whether it's putting cement in the areas where you have chronic potholes. This will come back, especially with the super El Niño forecasted."
